( there is pause as Kyouko enters her room, Madoka just taking the moment to watch and see if she might be able to figure out just what was amiss.

Kyouko's voice breaks her concentration and for a moment, she stares confused before the words catch up to her and she nods. sitting on her bedside table is a small basket, full of small cookies and cupcakes that she sets between them as Madoka takes a seat on the floor across from her friend.

it only takes a moment before her usual smile returns. )

I hope they're okay.

[invocation]

[Kyouko stuffs a cookie in her mouth without looking, then grabs a cupcake and peels away the liner before downing that too. There's a moment that's just a lot of loud, inelegant chewing. Finally:]

Your food's always good.

[revelation]

( although the topic of their talk today is worrying, she is glad for some normalcy right now to help cover all of that worry. )

Thank you, I'll invite you over when I make dinner again. I've gotten a lot better since we arrived.

[invocation]

Mm.

[Chewing, chewing...she shifts back into her loud eating for a while, working out what she wants to say.

Finally:]

I went back for a little while.

[She studies the little basket of sweets rather than Madoka's face.] I couldn't figure it out when I got back here, 'cause you're contracted, but when I went home...so, I guess that you gotta be from after everything happened.

[Chomp chomp chomp.]

[revelation]

( she shifts where she sits on her knees, picking idly at the hem of her skirt for a sense of comfort in the time she waits. when it does finally come, Madoka finds herself at a lose for words.

a moment passes, then another before she finally manages to work out her own words. )

Mm, it was after everything... after Sayaka-chan and you... ( even now it's hard to say, even now months and months later. so she takes a breath and tries again: ) It was when Walpurgisnacht came.

[invocation]

[Kyouko crumples the little cupcake wrappers and frowns, more to herself than Madoka.

Walpurgisnacht. She'd agreed to fight that witch with Homura, and then...then Sayaka had changed, and there was nothing to do but to try to help her. It had been the only thing that mattered.] Even after all that, you contracted? What for? You should've stayed out of it like I told you.

[revelation]

I remember you told me that one day, I might have to fight and put my life on the line. After everything that happened, I... ( unlike before, it's a little easier for Madoka to speak now and she allows herself to look straight at Kyouko before continuing. )

I finally found a wish worth giving this life to see granted. Something I could do and never regret.

[invocation]

[...Yeah, she had said that, hadn't she. Kyouko meets Madoka's gaze, and she doesn't look angry, for once. Maybe curious, and annoyed, and if it was anyone other than Kyouko, perhaps a little sad. Madoka was a good person, like Sayaka. She wasn't hardened like Mami, or cold and distant like Homura, and she certainly wasn't like Kyouko herself, who had thrown away her soul and lost her family.

The life of a Puella Magi didn't fit someone like Madoka.]

What was it? What did you wish for?

[revelation]

To erase all witches before their birth. ( the words are said quite simply, as if it was the most natural thing in the world for Madoka to say. she turns her hand over, glancing to the runes that made up her name on her ring before glancing up to Kyouko once more with the softest of smiles. ) To prevent them from ever being born.

Every single witch in every universe, past and future, with my own power.

[invocation]

[She had expected anything from wishing everyone back to life to being able to defeat Walpurgisnacht in one shot, but that...this wish, the sheer magnitude of it, had not occurred to her, would not have in a million years. And so she stares at Madoka in blatant, open shock for a few long moments.]

You changed the world? You really...you made a wish like that?

[It's said with no small amount of disbelief. She realizes, suddenly, that she is staring at one of the most powerful magical girls ever conceived or thought of. She is talking to someone who made a wish so entirely selfless that it encompassed the whole of their world.

...Finally, after a long moment of thinking of that, of sitting in the silence of Madoka's apartment, she grins, and gives Madoka a friendly punch in the shoulder.] Heh, how can you be that casual about something like that? Damn...

[She pushes a muffin over to Madoka.] You finally figured out what you wanted to be, huh? Good.

[revelation]

( she is quiet in the moments that follow, only glancing off a bit bashfully when Kyouko speaks. well, at least until the friendly punch to her shoulder comes and she glances back in surprise.

still, she finds herself giggling lightly and taking the muffin that had been pushed her way. )

I really have to thank you, Kyouko-chan. It's thanks to what I learned from everyone that I was finally able to able to find the wish I truly wanted. I'm just sorry it took so long. ( peeling away the paper from the muffin, she breaks off a piece with another big smile toward Kyouko. ) When we get back home I'm not really sure just what is going to happen, but...

I'd really like us to be friends again, okay? All of us.

[invocation]

[Kyouko smiles at the reaction. It's very much like Madoka, she had realized, to give everyone the credit for something she'd done through her own ability, but Kyouko found this trait endearing rather than grating. It was something that awakened that old desire she had, the one to protect other people.

There was something inspiring about it.

But her expression sobers, at the mention of friendship, of going home. She understands, of course, knows Madoka's heart is in the right place, but saying and doing would be two entirely different things.]

...Yeah. But, you know, I talked to Sayaka before I came to see you. She's so damn hardheaded. How am I supposed to be friends with someone like that?
